Nuchev and
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) have been working
together since 2015 to research the benefits of goat’s milk.

RMIT is the leading Australian University with research capabilities to understand and scientifically prove the benefits of goat’s milk.

They have undertaken an independent three-year research study which is based on Oli6® formula and the natural prebiotic oligosaccharides found within Oli6® goat’s milk.

Oligosaccharides (oligos for short), a non digestible food for the good bacteria in your tummy, these are found in high quantities in Oli6® and aid gut health, immunity and digestion.

This ground-breaking study has recently been published in the British Journal of Nutrition, a leading international peer‑reviewed journal.

Why are these Oligos so important?

86% of all children under the age of two have had digestive issues.* The key property in formula that Mums are looking for are probiotics (the actual bacteria) or prebiotics (food for bacteria) to help solve these digestive issues. Prebiotic oligosaccharides are non-digestible food that feed beneficial gut bacteria, and these prebiotics are instrumental in supporting immunity and digestive health, maintaining a healthy weight and influencing brain function.

In a world research first, scientists found that Oli6® formula has similar prebiotic properties to human breast milk. These prebiotics are able to grow beneficial bacteria and protect against harmful gut bacteria such as E. coli. and salmonella.

RMIT researchers also found Oli6® formula contained 14 naturally-occurring prebiotic oligosaccharides, five of which are also found in human breast milk. The structure of the prebiotics are incredibly important as good bacteria possess the enzyme systems to metabolise them more effectively whereas pathogens lack this ability, instead they latch onto these and are then flushed out of the body.

Common Digestive Problems

Regurgitation, Bad Breath, Eczema, Distressed, Under-nourished, Bad Sleep, Diarrhoea, Constipation and Abnormal Defecation.

RMIT RESEARCH i

RMIT have been researching the natural prebiotics that are found in Oli6® and their effectiveness, the research was done specifically on Oli6®, GOS and competitors.

The research showed that Oli6® was the best performing product to increase the growth of beneficial bacteria and to reduce the incidence of bad bacteria like E Coli. and proves that the most important Oligos make it through the manufacturing process and into Oli6®.

Many formula brands use artificial prebiotics like GOS and FOS, however, their structure is different to the natural oligos. It is the structure of these natural prebiotics which is crucial to their efficacy as they are genetically compatible with the good bacteria in our tummy, as this is what the good bacteria eat and the harmful bacteria bind onto and get flushed out the system.

Oli6® has five oligosaccharides in common with human milk. Oligos have been shown to aid in the growth of beneficial bacteria and reduce the growth of harmful bacteria like E.Coli.

A) Harmful bacteria latch onto sugars on our gut lining, this is the first step to colonisation and infection process

B) Some human milk oligos, have the same structure as these sugars found on the gut lining. Instead of attaching themselves to the gut wall, bad bacteria attach onto the human milk oligos

C) The harmful bacteria then get flushed out of the gut

The different structures of natural and added prebiotics

Galactooligosaccharides (GOS)

• Synthetic Milk Oligosaccharides derived from cow’s milk

Fructoologosaccharides (FOS)

• Synthetic Oligosaccharides derived from plants

Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMO)

• Five are structurally similar to those found in Human Milk

• Structured in a way that beneficial bacteria can enzymatically digest them

• The structure of the prebiotics oligos are similar to the sugars on the gut wall that pathogens use for attachment and initiation infection. Rather than attaching to the gut wall, they attach to these prebiotics and are then flushed out of the gut

• Scientifically proven to aid gut health and prevent infection

Growth rates of bifidobacterium (good bacteria)
and reduction in growth of E.Coli (harmful bacteria)
